Latest Electronics and gadgets - New York Online

The staff here were professional and service was quick. My laptop needed a keyboard replacement so I brought it in on a Wednesday for them to take a look and order the part. They ordered the part and it came in two days later. They called me as soon as the part arrived. I brought in the laptop and they had the keyboard replacement done in 2 hours flat. To my surprise, when I picked up my laptop, I also noticed that they had wiped down my screen. I suspect they also cleaned my fans too because my PC runs at significantly lower temperatures while using graphics intensive programs. These were things that they didn't even mention; it was very reassuring to know that they were so thorough with their service.

The price they charged me was slightly higher than quoted but within reasonable ranges. Just keep in mind that the quote is an estimate and they likely can't pin down a price until they see the laptop in person. Note that they are cash only. I was quoted a price via email, and when I came in with my iMac in the morning they installed my new hard drive, cloned the system/files back into the new... and it was done by afternoon. Frank's a really nice good humored person, they will NOT buy your old electronics--but he gets a good laugh that people see a wall of old cameras and equipment (meant strictly as an homage set-up for show)... and the customers want to sell their old analog stuff to Hi-Tech. https://www.wikipedia.de/

BEWARE of these scam artists; they took my money and did not repair my amp and my valuable tubes are missing. This business should not even be in existence! I had a VHS tape stuck in an old VHS player.  There are not many places left in NYC that can fix a VHS player.  But I was fortunate to find Hi-Tech Electronic Service Center on Google.  I initially called to get an estimate, and the woman on the phone indicated that it might cause $100.00 to get the tape out.  I had no choice but to go to Hi-Tech.  I believe I spoke to the owner of the establishment and he took a look at the problem. He was able to remove the tape, and I asked how much it was going to cost.  He told me whatever I wanted to pay. I gave him 20.00 dollars and he told me it was too much. But I said to him that he was very honest and told him to keep the $20.00.  It is not easy to find an establishment that doesn't charge an arm and a leg for service.  I would come back to Hi-Tech if a need arises in the future.

My MacBook had been giving me display problems for 2 months and after getting a new monitor with continued problems I searched for a Mac repair shop. Frank was very helpful and even allowed me to drop my MacBook off after the store had closed (roughly 10 minutes). The following day was Christmas but he asked me to come in the day after Christmas; by 1pm the following day my MacBook was diagnosed, quoted and on schedule to being fixed by that evening. After receiving my MacBook back all display problems were immediately gone and now I'm back to working stress free. Thanks Frank and Hi Tech!

I bought a universal laptop charger at Best Buy and had to immediately return it because it did not work.  Pro tip: Universal chargers are not universal and may inadvertently destroy your computer.  I contacted Dell next to see what charger would fit my laptop and to see if they could ship it the next day.  They gave me an obscure model number (all Dell chargers are not the same!) and the soonest they could deliver was in 5 days.  They could do next day delivery but at high cost.  I next tried Staples which indicated next day delivery but when I added the charger to the cart, the delivery day changed to a later date.  I was taken aback by the bait and switch on the date and decided not to go with Staples (especially after reading the reviews).  The reviews on Amazon were similarly not complimentary and I worried about getting a Chinese knockoff that would destroy my computer...because... Amazon.  I entertained the idea of CDW but I was at the point where I was worried I wouldn't get the right model charger I needed since it is so easy for companies to ship the wrong charger as they all look alike,

Hi-Tech was recommended to me by a recording engineer who takes vintage analog gear to them for repair. I've gone a few times to have various tape decks repaired. If you work with tape, you'll find it's extremely hard to find a shop in NYC that can service these machines, so it's fortunate that Hi-Tech is around. They've serviced a couple of my decks to satisfaction, and at very competitive prices. When one of my decks was totaled, they explained the specific issue that would have made it prohibitively expensive to fix -- and they didn't charge me anything to take a look and make an assessment. Frank is a great "face" of the business on account of his friendliness, attentiveness, and willingness to explain. The only less-than-good experience I've had at Hi-Tech had to do with a solid-state instrument amp, which they said they could work on, but it was clearly beyond the tech's knowledge. The shop put in a new speaker that blew out almost immediately. (At least Hi-Tech's charge for that job was half of what I paid another shop to actually get it fixed!) Not a major issue for me, as good amp repair is easier to find than good tape deck repair.
